May 4, 2015 (Lynnfield, MA) – StarGames and SMG announced today that Nancy Kerrigan’s Halloween on Ice, one of the longest running shows in all of figure skating, will return this fall with a new story, expanded fan experience opportunities and a star studded cast of Olympic, World and US National medalists who will help celebrate one of the biggest holidays of the year. The tour will begin in Wilkes Barre, PA on October 8 and conclude on October 30 in Grand Rapids, MI. Tickets for Halloween on Ice will go on sale on May 13.
Each show will include a variety of opportunities for the fans to go behind the scenes and interact with the skaters with options including a post show “meet and greet”, costume contest for kids, skating experiences, picture taking options and more.

StarGames is also pleased to announce a promotional partnership with U.S. Figure Skating in conjunction the Halloween on Ice Tour. U.S. Figure Skating members will receive special ticketing options as well as have the opportunity to perform in a special group number in shows in their communities. Several tour markets will also host SkateFests. Free and open to the public, SkateFests are skating clinics that provide skaters of all ages the opportunity to skate with members of the show’s cast.

Halloween on Ice debuted at the Boston Garden in 1995 and over the years has played to live and television audiences across the country. Kayla Harrison Discusses Past with Ronda Rousey and Future in MMA
Many eyes turned at Pedro’s Judo Center during practices in 2009. When Ronda Rousey and Kayla Harrison faced off, it was the round to watch.
“I actually miss it,” Harrison said last week. “I miss having a girl to train with who hates to lose as much as me.”
Rousey, now an undefeated UFC champion, became the first U.S. Olympic women’s judo medalist when she took bronze in 2008.
Harrison, then 18 years old, was also at the Beijing Olympics, only as a training partner for the 21-year-old Rousey because the U.S. did not earn a spot in Harrison’s weight division for those Games.
To prep, Rousey and Harrison went to a camp in relative seclusion at the home of their coach’s father off Arlington Pond in Salem, N.H.
“No Internet,” Harrison said. “His TV sucked. It was very much Rocky style.”
They fought in the mornings outside, shaded from the July sun by a tarp normally used to cover a car.
“I had that age advantage, even though she was heavier,” said Rousey, who fought in Olympic judo one weight class lighter than Harrison (about 17 pounds). “I always beat her.”
Then they ran around the lake. When they got back, Rousey and Harrison descended into the cellar and lifted weights.
“It was a catfight every day in the dojo,” said their coach, Jimmy Pedro.
“It works,” Harrison said. “I did the same thing before London.”
Harrison became the first American to win an Olympic judo gold medal at the London 2012 Games. That came three years after her last training bout with Rousey.
In 2009, Rousey made a brief comeback to judo one year after capturing Olympic bronze, Harrison and Pedro said. After two months training at Pedro’s Judo Center in Massachusetts, and a few days training in Japan, Rousey unexpectedly quit and flew home to California, leading to her switch to mixed martial arts.
Rousey has said Pedro disapproved of MMA.
“He pretty much told me to go [bleep] myself,” Rousey said in 2013, according to USA Today. “He didn’t want to help me.”
“I’m not extremely happy with some of the comments that have been made in USA Today,” Pedro said in New York last week. “It didn’t go down like they quoted. I wish Ronda well in her MMA career. I didn’t tell her to bleep off. We didn’t leave on bad terms.”
They left on unfortunate terms, the way Pedro and Harrison tell it. Rousey had returned to training with Pedro’s judo group for two months in 2009 when she accepted an offer, with Pedro’s blessing, to spend a year training in Japan, the birthplace of the sport.
Some of America’s best judokas spent blocks in Japan, including the two-time Olympic bronze medalist Pedro. Rousey would receive $40,000 for one year with housing and food paid for, plus two trips back to the U.S. to visit family, Pedro said.
Harrison and others from the Massachusetts group went with Rousey for her move-in to Japan in 2009. Here’s what Pedro said happened:
“They did a big to-do for her. They rolled out the red carpet, had a big press thing for her. It was very important to the Japanese that they had an American coming to live and train with them for a year. After four days, [Rousey] decided this isn’t for me. Rather than talk to the Japanese, politely ask for her way out of it, she just packed her bags and left. The Japanese were very upset. That’s not their culture. They don’t understand an American just taking off. That’s just not protocol. They shunned the rest of our team and ignored our team. They [the other U.S. judokas] were there for another six weeks. They didn’t give them any rides, didn’t pay attention to them. [The Japanese] were really pissed off.”
Pedro said he’s occasionally seen Rousey since 2009 and wished her luck in person. He called her an icon and the most recognizable female athlete in the world in an interview last week.
“I knew she’d be successful [in MMA],” Pedro said. “She got a level of judo living at our place for six years that no other female on the planet, other than Kayla, has gotten.”
Harrison is often asked if she might pursue MMA. She’s received offers. Even Rousey has brought it up as the former roommates talk on the phone or text.
“We go back and forth,” Harrison said, adding that Rousey gave her MMA contacts if she wanted to get started. “It’s pretty tempting at times. Who doesn’t want to be famous? Who doesn’t want to be rich? Who doesn’t yearn for all of those things at some point in their life? But I just don’t know if it’s for me, quite honestly. I’m not as confident as Ronda in front of the media. I don’t mean this in a negative way, but I’m not a showboater. I don’t think I would be very good at putting on a show or talking trash.”
Rousey, who is quite good at putting on a show and talking trash, admires Harrison’s attitude.
“Kayla very much cared — practice, competition, she had that deep caring about how she did,” Rousey said last month. “What really made her stand out the most was how important it was to her, to see how passionate she was about it.”
Harrison can’t fight in MMA at her Olympic weight. Her judo weight class is a maximum 171 pounds. The highest women’s MMA division caps at 145.
But Rousey competed in Olympic judo in one division lower than Harrison and has dominated in MMA since dropping 15-20 pounds in competition weight. So it’s possible.
And Harrison can be buoyed by the fact that she closed the gap on Rousey in their head-to-head sessions from that pre-2008 Olympic camp to those two months in 2009 when they were so competitive that everybody in the dojo had to watch.
“Who knows, maybe after Rio, [MMA] is what I’ll want to do,” Harrison said.
Team USA Judo Wins New York Open Team Judo Championship

It has been nearly 25 years since Monica Seles outlasted Gabriela Sabatini in an epic WTA final at the Garden — the first five-set tennis match ever for women. The year-end tournament soon left New York for Germany, and the five-set format never caught on. But Seles thinks of both that match and her opponent in the fondest terms.
“I always loved playing three out of five, it’s more of an equalizer if you’re a slow starter, more of a true barometer,” Seles said Thursday, in a conference call. “I think the ladies are definitely fit enough to play best-of-five matches, and I think at Grand Slams it would be a lot of fun in the semis and final.”
Don’t hold your breath for such a radical change. In the meantime, Seles will play a best-of-three exhibition match at the Garden on March 10 against Sabatini, part of the BNP Paribas Showdown before Roger Federer takes on Grigor Dimitrov.
Seles was just 14 years old when she first faced the more established Sabatini at the Miami Masters in 1988.
Seles lost. The occasion was nearly as intimidating as Sabatini’s heavy topspin groundstrokes.
“She was already a star and it was my first night match,” Seles said. “I was absolutely star-struck with her. But she was such a lady on and off the court, if you won against her or lost against her.”
Seles ended up winning 11 of 14 matches against Sabatini, but what she remembers most about the glamorous Argentinian is Sabatini’s support after Seles was stabbed in 1993 by a madman in Hamburg. Upon Seles’ return to tennis two years later, Sabatini was the only top woman player who openly supported Seles’ bid to freeze her No. 1 ranking.
“She thought about a human being before a dollar amount,” Seles said. “That speaks about a tremendous amount of character.”
Seles, 41, said she is looking forward to playing at the Garden again, and would play as competitively as possible.
“For me, one of the saddest days was when the season-ending championships were moved to Germany,” she said. “The Garden was the perfect setting. You play at MSG, the stands are really close and you feel the energy. As a player, you just thrive on that.”

New York, NY (December 8, 2014) – Tennis legends Monica Seles and Gabriela Sabatini will face each other in a 25th anniversary rematch of their famed 1990 five-set WTA Championship final in the 2015 BNP Paribas Showdown, it was announced today. Roger Federer, who last month led Switzerland to their first-ever Davis Cup championship, will face Grigor Dimitrov and headline the annual tennis showcase on Tuesday, March 10 at Madison Square Garden.
It was November 19, 1990 and the two legendary women’s players were paired against each other in the finals of the season-ending Virginia Slims Championships at Madison Square Garden. After nearly four hours of tennis, the second-seeded Seles, a then 16-year-old from Yugoslavia, outlasted the No. 3 seed Sabatini 6-4, 5-7, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in front of 17,290 fans. Seles became the youngest player to ever win the tournament and it was the first time two women played a five-set professional match since the 1901 U.S. Nationals in Philadelphia, where Elizabeth Moore defeated Myrtle McAteer, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.
"It will be great to be back on the court at Madison Square Garden, where I have so many fun memories from playing the WTA Championships,” said Seles. “The Showdown on World Tennis Day has become another event at The Garden that all of the players want to play so I look forward to an exciting night of tennis with Gaby, Roger and Grigor. It should be a great event."
Sabatini added, “New York has a very special place in my heart and to be back at Madison Square Garden will be such a special moment. I am very excited that I will see and play Monica again. Throughout my career I loved every time I travelled to New York. I am excited and I will look forward to be part of the World Tennis Day on March 10.”
Sabatini turned that historic 1990 match around by breaking Seles when Seles was serving for the second set at 5-4. Sabatini then held serve and broke Seles again to win the second set.
Sabatini won the third set breaking Seles for 5-3 and serving out that set with an ace. In the fourth set and after saving two set points to break Seles and pull to 4-5, Sabatini was broken herself forcing the fifth set.
In the final set both were still hitting big serves and ground-stroke winners from deep behind the baseline, but Sabatini had to save triple break point to hold her serve for 1-1. Seles' powerful forehands kept passing Sabatini at the net and, ultimately, kept her pinned to the baseline allowing Seles to capture the championship.
Seles is a former world No. 1-ranked player and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2009. She won nine Grand Slam singles titles, eight before turning 20 years old, and became the youngest-ever French Open champion at the age of 16. She was the year-end world No. 1 in 1991 and 1992 and played her last professional match at the 2003 French Open, but did not officially retire until February 2008.
Gabriela Sabatini was one of the leading players on the women's circuit in the late-1980s and early-1990s. The Argentine won the women's singles title at the US Open in 1990, the women's doubles title at Wimbledon in 1988, two WTA Year-End Championships in 1988 and 1994, and a silver medal at the 1988 Olympic Games.
Seles competed in the WTA Championships at Madison Square Garden in 1988-1992, 1995-1998 and 2000, making the upcoming BNP Paribas Showdown her eleventh appearance at The Garden. Sabatini will be making her ninth appearance while playing in the season-ending tournament from 1987-1992, and in 1994 and 1995.

“Bridgend” Documentary to Premier on Netflix

Bridgend is a groundbreaking documentary film that investigates the chain of gruesome events that has caused the sleepy town of Bridgend to become the subject of headlines across the United Kingdom. Through exclusive interviews with family members and friends of the victims, the filmBridgend traces the victims’ final hours, revealing the lives lost in this tragic story. One boy laid out his suit to attend his friend’s funeral, and only hours later, walked to a tree next to the one where his friend had died and hanged himself. Another girl was found hanging in a bathroom just hours after hearing of the suicide of her younger cousin. A young man, having attended several of his friends’ funerals, ended his life in a children’s park after a night at the pub (within weeks, two of his ex-girlfriends were also found hanged). The stories leading up to the tragic deaths are varied, but they are starkly alike in their endings. The victims are left hanging from jackets or cell phone cords or ropes, from playground slides or banisters or the back of a closet door.
In Bridgend, Director/Writer John Michael Williams brings our attention to a difficult topic. Williams spent 5 years filming and investigating a story that he believes was intentionally hidden from most of the world. “The inextricable links between the deaths can't be denied, but officials tasked with the investigation can offer no answers or solace to the families left behind. Bridgend puts a lens on the macabre story still unfolding in a town haunted by one hundred lives lost to suicide,” said Williams. “This was not an easy film to make, but this story needs to be told.” At one point last year Williams was so distraught over the suicides that he was compelled to write and perform music that reflected the anguish of what he was experiencing. His trilogy of songs garnered 75 million views on YouTube, and Williams’ song, “A World Without Love,” plays over the film’s closing credits. Williams also directed the documentary film, “The Gloucester 18,” and the animated feature, “The Easter Egg Escapade,” which Williams also wrote. He also composed the music and performed the love theme with Natalie Cole.
More people committed suicide in the United States last year than were killed in auto accidents. Over 34,000 people in the United States commit suicide every year; about one person every 15 minutes. It’s the third leading cause of death for teen-agers. For 10-14 year-olds, the suicide rate has doubled in the last ten years. Williams believes because of the stigma that exists around suicide, too little is said or written in the media on the issue.“Kids should be taught in school not to kill themselves just as they're taught not to take drugs or to drink and drive or to get in cars with strangers.”
While debate still rages over the cause of the Bridgend hanging deaths, the numbers continue to rise. One thing is for certain: there are innumerable friends and family members in Bridgend who have been directly affected by these tragedies. Bridgend probes the chilling drama unfolding in a town that will be haunted by the one question those are forever cursed to ask: Why?
